BREAKING NEWS 🥺 :Tiger Woods shares heartbreaking reason daughter has no interest in golf

In an interview with the TODAY Show, golf legend Tiger Woods explained why his daughter, Sam, has no interest in taking up golf like her father and younger brother, Charlie

Tiger Woods continues to be a force in the golf world, even if his play might not be on the same level as it was before. Still, Woods captivates fans whenever he arrives at a course, with those in attendance waiting to see what the 48-year-old can do at this stage of his career.

With the 82-time PGA Tour winner slowing down as he gets older, the golf world is pining for who could be the next “Tiger Woods.” In recent years, Tiger’s son, Charlie, has made his name known, appearing in various tournaments to compete in the same events his father did all those years ago.

And while Charlie continues to play his way onto the U.S. Open, Tiger’s daughter, Sam, is taking a different path. In an interview with the TODAY Show, Tiger explained why his daughter has no interest in pursuing golf like her father and Charlie, her younger brother.

“No, no, no, no,” Tiger said when asked if Sam had put any thought into becoming a golfer like the rest of her family. “She has a, I think, a negative connotation to the game because at that time, when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her. I had to pack and I had to leave and I had to be gone for weeks and there’s still a negative connotation to it.”

Tiger admitted he was OK with Sam not wanting to pursue golf and has found other ways to connect with his oldest child. To Tiger, being able to connect with his children in some way was more important than forcing his children to do something they did not want to do.

“So we develop our own relationship, our own rapport that’s outside of golf, that we do things that is done that don’t involve golf,” Tiger continued. “Meanwhile my son and I, we do everything golf-related. It’s just very different.”

Despite having no interest in playing golf, Sam does make the occasional appearance to support her father and Charlie. During the PNC Championship in December, Sam was spotted caddying for Tiger as the family made their way through the event.

Being able to play alongside his son and to be caddied by his daughter was a great experience for Tiger, as he was frequently seen with a smile on his face, despite the Woods team not finishing where they would have liked. Meanwhile, Tiger’s relationship with Charlie is more focused on the links compared to Sam’s.

While the Woods team was competing in PNC, a source told PEOPLE that Tiger “loved” spending time with Charlie and approached his relationship with his son differently than his Tiger’s father, Earl, had while the golf legend was growing up on Southern California.

“They’re all smiles,” the source said at the time. “Tiger is definitely teaching him the right techniques, but there’s not the intensity that Earl had with him. It’s a total bonding situation. Tiger can get goofy and funny with Charlie. It’s not ‘all work and no play’ like Earl could sometimes get.”

As Charlie continues his quest to be on the same level as his father, it is clear that he and Tiger’s relationship stems from the closeness they’ve built by being on the course together. And while he might encounter some bumps along the way, Charlie knows his father is there to guide him through the process.

For Sam, while Tiger and Charlie continue to golfing journey together, she knows that her father will be there to guide her as well, even if it is outside of golf.
