Breaking Update: Miami Heat formally released 2 key players

The Miami Heat have waived Drew Peterson and Alondes Williams.

On Saturday, the team announced it had waived two players.

Peterson was cut last summer after playing five seasons of college basketball (two for Rice and three for USC).

 

Last year, he averaged 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 44.2% from the field and 35.8% from three. points in 33 games.

 

Meanwhile, Williams retired in 2022 and played one game for the Brooklyn Nets last season. He spent most of the year in the G League and averaged 13.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 51, 3% from the field and 37.5% from 3-point range in 24 regular season games (he also appeared in 11 Showcase Cup games and two G League playoff games).

 

As for the Heat, they will play their first game of the season on October 25 when they host Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons in Florida.

 

Last season, the Heat finished eighth in the Eastern Conference, but defeated the Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics in the first three rounds of the NBA playoffs (they lost to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals).

 

The franchise had reached the finals in two of the previous four seasons.
