Former Dallas Cowboys teammates Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin showcased the love and respect shared between the pair by breaking down on live television.

After starring together on the Cowboys, Sanders and Irvin have been friends for decades. In fact, their lives have been intertwined since they grew up in Florida, sharing the national spotlight in college football as they battled in several classic Miami-Florida State clashes.

In the NFL, the rivals won championships against one another before uniting on the Cowboys, winning Super Bowl XXX over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sanders and Irvin now work in very different roles, with the former acting as the head caoch of the Colorado Buffaloes while the legendary receiver is a media favourite.

The magnitude of their relationship was displayed in full on Friday morning in Boulder, where ‘Undisputed’ was filmd live. The moment reflected on Sanders’ journey from NFL icon to charismatic college football coach ahead of his Buffaloes’ clash with No. 8 USC on Saturday.

During the segment, Irvin revealed a story about Sanders, insisting he helped him get into television amid personal struggles after his NFL retirement in 2000. The 57-year-old then heaped praise on the former cornerback for being an ambassador – setting up an emotional moment.

“He’s always been that way with everybody, he helps everybody and I love him,” Irvin said before Sanders commended him and quickly became emotional.

“Darn it, I’m getting emotional,” Sanders said as he fought off tears. “This man did that for me. He didn’t have to do that, and he wanted me to be the best and prepared me for this next level of my life. That’s friendship, man, no matter what goes on, that’s friendship.

Deion Sanders emotionally embraced Michael Irvin in a touching moment on Friday’s episode of ‘Undisputed’

“And that’s one of the reasons, whenever he calls, I’m picking it up on the first ring ’cause I love him, man.”

Sanders walked around the table to hug Irvin as the crowd applauded. Irvin continued to praise Sanders afterwards, explaining why he is such a passionate supporter of Colorado in 2023.

“People question all of my support, but he’s one of my best friends,” said Irvin, who gave the Buffaloes an impassioned speech during practice earlier this week. “Out of all the times this man has followed me to places that he shouldn’t have been in to come and get me – are you telling me I shouldn’t support him now? We’ve been through some real valleys.”

He added: “He’s born to coach. People will look at all his flash and think he can’t produce, then you’re going to miss out.”

Sanders is considered one of the best athletes in sports history after sensationally starring in both the NFL and MLB during his playing days. He is now thriving as a college football coach; in his first full season on the sidelines, Sanders led HBCU outfit Jackson State to the Southwestern Athletic Conference title with an 11-2 record before securing a move to Colorado ahead of the 2023 season.

He was brought to Colorado to turn the Buffaloes around, as the team’s 1-11 record in 2022 was its worst since 2012. Sanders has done exactly that with his 3-1 Buffaloes preparing to face Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams’ USC in Boulder on Saturday Sept. 30.
