JEFFERSON CITY, MO – May 5, 2025 – Several homes across Missouri have sustained significant damage as a result of powerful tornadoes that swept through the state over the past few days.
While no fatalities have been reported in the most recent events, the destruction of property has left several families displaced and communities reeling.
On Tuesday, April 29th, severe thunderstorms packing winds up to 91 mph caused considerable damage in Springfield. Reports indicate that trees were uprooted and fell onto homes, causing structural damage.
Power outages affected tens of thousands of residents across the state as the strong winds downed power lines.
Earlier in April, on the 20th, an EF-2 tornado tore through Callaway County, leaving a trail of destruction in the Guthrie area. Drone footage revealed homes with significant damage, debris scattered across the landscape, and numerous uprooted trees. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported in this event.
These recent incidents follow a significant tornado outbreak in mid-March, where multiple strong tornadoes caused widespread damage across various parts of Missouri. Some of these tornadoes were rated as high as EF-3, with wind speeds reaching 165 mph, leading to homes being completely destroyed in some areas.
The frequency of severe weather events, including tornadoes, is typical for Missouri during the spring months of April and May. Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage from the recent storms and are working to provide assistance to those affected. Residents are urged to stay informed about weather alerts and have safety plans in place.
