Scottie Scheffler has dominated the sport of golf in 2024, winning multiple titles including an Olympic gold and an emotional second victory

World No. 1ย Scottie Schefflerย opened up about his emotional response when claiming his second Masters title in April.

Theย golfย sensation, aged 28, has truly left his mark on the sport this year withย wins at the Tour Championship, Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational, among other accolades including bringing home aย gold medal from the Olympic Games.

Yet, Scheffler’sย proudest moment on the course looked to have come at Augusta National, where he dominated his opponents with an 11-under-par score,ย taking the prized Green Jacketย for the second time.

Now, the American has opened up about the emotions that come with winning a major title and why fans didn’t see them after the Masters like they did when he took to the top of the podium in Paris.

“I typically get emotional after my wins,” Scheffler confessed, tellingย GOLF’s Subpar podcast. “I cried after the Masters this year – but I did it on my way to walk back to the champion’s locker, and there’s nobody that could see it!

“I told them I needed to go to the bathroom. I didn’t need to go to the bathroom; I just needed two minutes to collect my thoughts. I went up there, and I just cried a little bit – that’s just how I am. It just happened at the Olympics while everybody was watching.”

In another display of emotions, when he stood on the winner’s podium in Paris wearing his hard-won medal, Scheffler seemed to be grappling with the magnitude of his achievements, although he revealed some uncertainty about the reception of the event.

“I didn’t quite understand what the environment would be like at the tournament,” Scheffler confessed. “It’s a normal Thursday through Sunday stroke play event, and we play three practice rounds and don’t see a single fan at the golf course.
