The FSU loss in Week 0 has people wanting Norvell fired, making for an odd situation for Notre Dame football.

Before the season started, Florida State was considered one of the biggest opponents that Notre Dame football would face in 2024. And then Week 0 happened. And suddenly, it looks like Georgia Tech might be one of the most important games on the Irish schedule.

While Marcus Freeman and company recalibrate after the Seminoles suffered an upset to the Yellowjackets, it seems as though one calibration is that the voices to get rid of Mike Norvell are pretty loud.

As ridiculous as that may sound, the way that FSU has performed when Jordan Travis isn’t under center has some FSU fans wondering if Norvell got lucky. While it’s inconceivable that he won’t be the guy when the Seminoles play Notre Dame football, the rumblings are getting very loud.

Things started right after Florida State’s loss to Georgia Tech and fans took to message boards to voice their displeasure. Message Board Geniuses found the worst of the group.

“We are now locked into a 10 year contract with a guy who straight up can’t recruit HS and tries to duct tape a team together in the portal each year. Eventually it was gonna bite us and we saw that tonight.”

It’s worth pointing out that the Noles finished with the 12th-ranked class in 2024, according to 247Sports, and are currently 18th. Neither of those numbers is bad, but they aren’t fantastic compared to what should be an attractive situation in Tallahassee.

According to Athlon Sports, plenty of other people were also calling for Norvell’s firing.

All of that sounds rather ridiculous on its face. Mike Norvell has one of the best programs in the country at his disposal. But it looks like the Notre Dame football rival is having some real issues after ending the season last year with a blowout loss and starting this season with an upset loss.
