Lewis Hamilton sends two-word message to George Russell ahead of his farewell to Mercedes

The seven-time world champion will officially switch from Brackley to Maranello after this weekend when he joins Ferrari on a multi-year deal
The move will likely be Hamilton’s last transfer in F1 as he eyes his record eighth title with the sport’s most successful team.
Joining Mercedes from McLaren in 2013, the 39-year-old has enjoyed incredible success in his 12 years with the Silver Arrows.
Hamilton dominated the turbo hybrid era with Mercedes, winning six of his seven titles between 2014-2020 and officially becoming the winningest driver of all time.
Winning two races this season – his first since Jeddah in 2021 as he struggled to find performance in the ground effect era – Hamilton will be determined to end his spell with Mercedes on a high.

In his time with Mercedes, Hamilton has had some interesting battles with his teammates over the years.
The most notable being with Nico Rosberg, who forged a fierce rivalry in the turbo hybrid era before the German retired after winning the world championship in 2016.
Valtteri Bottas replaced Robserg in 2017 and went on to spend five seasons with Hamilton. The duo shared a great bond on and off the track, with the Finn leaving in 2022 to join Alfa Romeo – now Sauber.

Posting on his Instagram, Russell bid farewell to Hamilton ahead of his final outing with Mercedes, recognising him as his idol. In the post, the 27-year-old shared a picture of when he was 10, asking Hamilton for an autograph during his McLaren days.
Several years later and the two ended up sharing the grid and the same team together. Posting on his Instagram story, Hamilton reflected on that picture and what the pair have achieved since: “Time flies”, he wrote.

What has Lewis Hamilton said to his replacement Kimi Antonelli?
The seven-time champion will be replaced at Mercedes by a rookie, as Kimi Antonelli makes the step up from Formula 2.
The Italian has had a meteoric rise up the ranks and has been thrown straight into F1 after just one season in F2. He will be one of four rookies currently confirmed for the 2025 season.

Coming into one of the sport’s most successful teams in recent years, there will be some pressure to perform – especially considering that he is replacing arguably the greatest F1 driver of all time.
Hamilton has encouraged Antonelli to ‘take his time’ in F1, as well as telling him to stay off social media and not let negativity consume him.
Russell also offered advice to Antonelli as he prepares to lead Mercedes with the Italian by his side after Hamilton bids farewell and heads to Ferrari.
