Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell made up a trio of Brits hoping to beat Max Verstappen and Red Bull to pole and delight the British Grand Prix fans at Silverstone

George Russell raised hopes of back-to-back Formula 1 wins as he secure pole position at Silverstone.

And the British Grand Prix will start with no fewer than THREE drivers leading the charge. Lewis Hamilton made it an impressive one-two for Mercedes who look back to their best, while Lando Norris also went quicker than Max Verstappen to condemn the Dutchman to fourth on the grid.

And the fans in the grandstands roared as it was confirmed that all three drivers flying the British flag had gone faster than everyone else in Q3. And London-born Alex Albon also made it through to the top 10 to delight Williams.

Verstappen had damage on the floor of his Red Bull after a trip over the gravel and said after the session he could not have hoped for much better than fourth as a result. Oscar Piastri was fifth while Nico Hulkenberg shone throughout qualifying and put his Haas sixth on the grid.

Perez span off at Copse after putting on the soft tyres on the drying track in Q1. But it was still too wet for him at that corner as he lost control of his Red Bull and beached it in the gravel, condemning the Mexican to 19th on the grid.

Pierre Gasly will be the only driver behind him on the grid on Sunday, having gone slowest but also owing to the fact he had enough engine penalties to tot up a 50-place grid drop. Esteban Ocon was more annoyed to have only gone 18th fastest as Alpine’s strong qualifying form came to an abrupt end.

Kevin Magnussen and Valtteri Bottas were the other two in the bottom five as serial Q1-exiters Zhou Guanyu and Logan Sargeant made it through. The American did enough to secure 12th spot on the grid, a much improved result which earned congratulations over the radio from his race engineer.
