LeBron James is running it back with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The four-time NBA Champion signed a two-year deal to stay in Sunny California and chase the Boston Celtics and their 18 NBA Championships.
Notably, that’s a move that made sense from a financial and comfort perspective, as there was no point in moving around or chasing another ring at this point in his career.
However, it also prompted some criticism, as people thought he was just settling for the money, knowing they didn’t stand a chance to win a ring in that two-year window.
Nonetheless, that’s not how James feels.
When talking to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James stated that he had full confidence in the Lakers’ ability to win another ring, mostly because they’d already done it (via NBA Fan).
The veteran forward believes they’re not that far behind, and while most people disagree, he might not be that mistaken.
The Lakers made it to the Western Conference Finals two seasons ago, and they matched up well against most of the playoff teams.
They just happened to come across the Denver Nuggets, but perhaps they could’ve fared better against, say, the Oklahoma City Thunder, based solely on matchups.
Even so, the Lakers clearly need more firepower to keep up with other contenders in the league.
But any team featuring the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis will always have a chance to do something special, even if he’s getting closer to the end of his time in the league.
