Golf radio show host Chris McKee has criticized Tiger Woods’ TGL, calling the much-anticipated league a farce. He accused golf purists of hypocrisy for bashing LIV Golf while remaining silent about the upcoming tech-infused league.
The TGL, a tech-driven league, is set to launch on January 7. It was founded by Woods, Rory McIlroy, and sports executive Mike McCarley in partnership with the PGA Tour.
On Sunday, December 15, McKee took to X to express his disapproval of the TGL.
“Golf ‘purists’ talked s**t about LIV ‘ruining the game’ for 2 years because of a shot gun start & some Tiesto bumping in the background,” he wrote. “At least they play golf outside on actual golf courses with grass & the elements unlike this complete farce we’re about to see come Jan 7.
For the uninitiated, LIV Golf has long been a target of golf purists who criticize the Saudi-backed circuit for deviating from traditional golf formats. Unlike the traditional four-day, 72-hole events with a cut, LIV Golf features a three-day, 54-hole, no-cut format.
TGL is also departing from the traditional golf format, but it is not another circuit. Instead, it is a PGA Tour-recognized team event played over a few weeks. The much-anticipated league will feature triples and singles formats.
The triples format will be played over nine holes, with each hole worth nine points. Three players from each team will play alternate shots. The singles session will consist of just six holes, with each hole worth one point. The team with the highest points at the end will be declared the winner.
