Shedeur Sanders, tras los pasos de Tom Brady

We all thought he would be the number one pick. So when the hugely promising talent Shedeur Sanders dropped all the way to the fifth round, where he was picked up by the Cleveland Browns, eyebrows were raised across the US.

Colorado coach Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father, admitted recently that he was “hurt” by reports claiming his son was unprepared during pre-draft meetings with NFL teams, which may have led to him being overlooked for so long.

Deion made the comments on the Say What Needs To Be Said podcast, hosted by former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel.

‘Folks said we weren’t gonna be nothing’
He admitted that the negativity surrounding his son “did hurt” before admitting he found solace in religion: “the Bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise. There was some foolish stuff that went on, but that gave them something that they needed.”

“Like that edge that Tom [Brady] had”, he continued, “it gave them the edge that you had, it gave them the edge that I have. Folks said we weren’t gonna be nothing. But we had to prove that. It gave them the edge that they needed. Both of them.”

‘Anybody who knows my son understands he’s a professional’
“When you sit up there and say something like he went into a meeting unprepared, like, dude,” Deion Sanders added before taking particular offence at the reports suggesting Shedeur was unprepared and unprofessional for wearing headphones to a meeting.

“Shedeur Sanders? Who has had six different [offensive] coordinators, who has still functioned and levelled up every time we brought somebody new in, and you’re going to tell me he was unprepared? You’re going to tell me he had on headphones? Anybody who knows my son understands he’s a professional. He’s going to go into a meeting with headphones on? Y’all, come on now.”
Shedeur will be wearing the number 12 shirt in honour of Tom Brady, a figure who has become his mentor during this period and who told him to use the Draft slide as motivation to make people regret not choosing him.
