Houston Astros Have Placed Talented Star on Trade Block

The Houston Astros have put Jake Meyers on the trade block during the 2023 MLB offseason.

The Houston Astros will have tough decisions to make during the 2023-24 MLB offseason. Of those tough decisions include what they want to do with Jake Meyers.

According to Jon Morosi, the Astros have had trade discussion with other teams centered around Meyers.

“Sources: Astros have discussed OF Jake Meyers in trade talks with multiple teams in recent weeks. Meyers, who is not yet eligible for salary arbitration, had a .678 OPS in a career-high 112 games this year.”

The 27-year-old center fielder was one of the bright spots in Houston’s lineup in the 2021 season. Meyers hit .260/.323/.428 with six home runs in 163 plate appearances.

The struggles in 2023 are likely the reason why the Astros want to move him. Meyers could possibly still get a decent return after showing some promise on both sides of the baseball in his three years.

Any team that can use a serviceable outfielder will likely be in the mix here. He isn’t going to be a guy who can play every game, but Meyers can be a fourth outfielder or even start on a few teams.

In only 10 at-bats during his postseason career, Meyers is 3-10. The splits against left-handed pitching could have other teams interested. Slashing .257/.342/.433, he’s not a bad option to play against left-handed pitching.

Whether it be a prospect or getting another MLB player back in return, it makes sense for Houston to move on. They have a crowded outfield with the emergence of Chas McCormick and with Gold Glove winning utilityman Mauricio Dubon.

Meyers could earn a bigger role with a different club if he lands in the right spot.
