Another Braves coach leaves to join Ron Washington in Los Angeles

For the first time in a long time the Braves will have multiple coaching vacancies to fill in the offseason. Who could replace such respected coaches?

Earlier this week the Atlanta Braves cherished third base coach was officially named the next manager of the Los Angeles Angels. Speculation immediately suggested Atlanta could be in danger of losing another coach to join Ron Washington’s staff in LA. Today, it was confirmed that Braves’ first base coach, Eric Young Sr. will indeed be joining Wash’s coaching staff and head to LA.

Eric Young Sr. and Ryan Goins are planning to join Ron Washington on his Angels staff. Clint Hurdle and Chili Davis are two good names in the mix but nothing official there yet.

When the news of Washington’s hiring broke, Braves’ players and fans worldwide gave an outpour of heart-felt messages expressing their sadness in losing Wash. A lot of those same feelings are shared with Braves country admiration for Eric Young Sr.

Now, Atlanta must move forward in this offseason not only constructing the rest of the roster, but conducting a search to fill two separate coaching vacancies. There is no shortage of names circling in water cooler talk about which guys could be selected to replace two of the most beloved members of the Atlanta coaching staff.

We already speculated four names of our own as possible replacements once the Washington to LA news became official. Those same four names could be considered as first base coaches as well. Out of those four names, Matt Tuiasosopo feels like a very likely choice to fill one of those roles especially considering he occupied the Atlanta third base coaching box last season when Wash was being inducted into the Louisana Sports Hall of Fame.

Even if Tuiasosopo grabs one of those coaching vacancies the Braves still have an important decision on their hands regarding the other. We will keep our eyes and ears open to any news as to who gets consideration for these coaching roles. Just stay tuned here at the site as we will provide updates on the new look Braves coaching staff as soon as they come in.
