Red Sox Legend & Team Advisor Makes Pitch For Shohei Ohtani To Come To Boston

The Boston Red Sox will explore all options this offseason as they attempt to put their last-place finish in the American League East behind them.

Boston has a new chief baseball officer in Craig Breslow, a reset luxury tax and a top farm system. In a perfect world, they could also add the best player in Major League Baseball.

Two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani is primed to hit the open market and already is being recruited. Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez spoke on the matter while covering the World Series. He was asked about the possibility of Ohtani coming to Boston.

“I hope so! I hope, I’m rooting big time to have Shohei with us,” Martinez said, as heard on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast. “I would love, love dearly to have Shohei with us.”

Martinez was asked why he thinks Ohtani is a realistic possibility for the Red Sox and took the time to make his pitch.

“First of all, I think Shohei fits right into the team,” Martinez said. “I think Shohei has the perfect market and the proper people around him to make him comfortable. I think Shohei has a pretty good chance of becoming a legend in Boston.”

Martinez serves as a team advisor and has at least some level of input on decision-making. That likely means he gives his two cents here and there on potential acquisitions but at least we know Boston has at least one pro-Ohtani voice in the room.
