NFL Trade Rumors: Browns Prepare to Cover Deshaun Watson for $230 Million

Deshaun Watson was given the keys to the Cleveland Browns when the team traded him last March.
He was a three-time Pro Bowler in four seasons with the Houston Texans.
But the quarterback didn’t look like a Pro Bowler for Cleveland.

The franchise gave the 28-year-old a five-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $230 million through 2022.
Dianna Russini, The Athletic’s top insider, responded to Ryan Russillo’s podcast about the team’s concerns about the signal caller.

“Do I think the Cleveland Browns are worried about Deshaun?
What I mean is I didn’t put him on IR.
That will tell you what we think about it.

“So they use that as a basis for their concerns. But I know I can always get this coverage. Okay, so I don’t know if they’ll find the right place.
“But I know it’s something that’s been discussed in the building.”

Deshaun Watson has missed several starts with a shoulder injury, but the Browns own a 4-2 record despite the injury.
Rookie Dorien Thompson-Robinson started Week 4 against the Ravens and PJ Walker was under center in Week 6 against the 49ers.
He was held out of the Browns’ Week 7 game against the Colts, but did not return despite concussion clearance protocol.
Coach Kevin Stefanski saw this as a precaution. Cleveland beat Indianapolis 39-38.

Could the Browns add another quarterback if Deshaun Watson isn’t healthy?
This season’s trade deadline is less than a week away from Halloween, and the Browns may be concerned about their quarterback situation.
One of the names is Washington Commanders backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett started 11 games for the Browns last season, while Deshaun Watson served an 11-game suspension.
He threw for a team-high 2,608 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.
The Browns are looking for stability under center, so the caller is knowledgeable about the offensive personnel.
It is expected to be seen in the next few days if general manager Andrew Berry will implement an insurance policy.
