A defensive back who joined the Miami Dolphins this season announced plans to retire Thursday night, according to many reports.
Chase Winovich, a former third-round draft pick of the New England Patriots, was released and injured by the Dolphins last week from the team’s practice squad.
Former Miami Dolphins DE retires from NFL
According to a statement on Winovich’s Instagram account, the former Michigan Wolverines star player has announced his retirement from the NFL.
Winovich earned two first-team All-Big-Ten honors at Michigan. He was also named to the All-American third team for the 2018 season.
The 28-year-old has started in 11 games and played in a total of 56 games during his five-year NFL career. He recorded 107 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 12 sacks during that span.

Winovich has appeared in three games for the Dolphins this season. He recorded two total tackles in 2023.
