Minshew is the Colts QB and Browns Watson is still up in the air.

Browns quarterback PJ Walker warms up before Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers in Cleveland.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns used the same strategy this week.
Both continued to add to shoulder injury coverage for their starting quarterbacks.
In fact, they both returned. Both discussed the long-term health implications of bringing back their respective franchises.

Then they went in different directions.
While Indy decided to hand the reins to Gardner Minshew after letting rookie Anthony Richardson undergo season-ending surgery, the Browns are considering starting either Deshaun Watson or PJ Walker on Sunday after Watson he returned to training this week.

“We’re going to continue to be cautious and safe.
When he (Watson) is ready to do his job, whenever there’s an opportunity to play football, we’re going to do it.” “Let’s get him back in practice,” Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday.
Watson returned for his first practice on Thursday, September 28 and looked good on Friday.
That he came back and pitched was the only sign of hope.
The Browns’ offense could see a major improvement, according to receiver Amari Cooper.

Cleveland (3-2) thought Watson would return from last week’s bye, but when he didn’t, Walker was activated from the practice squad and immediately led Cleveland to a win over undefeated San Francisco previous. If Watson can’t play for Indy (3-3), Stefanski said Walker will.

But are the Browns risking their $230 million investment by playing Watson and adding a rotator cuff injury from overexertion?
“I don’t think about that part because they didn’t tell me,” Watson said.
“I don’t want to hesitate to come out and throw the ball. So I don’t put myself first in this situation.
“I put the team first.”

The Lakers know both Browns players well.
Watson went 2-5 against Indy with the Texans, while Walker played on Indy’s practice squad for three seasons.

The Colts have to figure out which way this season will go.
The Colts weren’t the same last week in Jacksonville as Richardson, Minshew and 2021 NFL running back Jonathan Taylor recovered from offseason surgery.
Minshew made a consistent impact in five games, but lost a career-high three times and once against the team that drafted him.
The intensity of the challenge will increase this week against the No. 1 defense.
1 of the league. But the Colts defense could face a much more difficult obstacle.
It’s about the right approach against the guy running the Browns offense.
“This is a good team.” three-time All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard said.
“They’re a good running team, so we’ve got to find a way to get results.”

World Camp

One thing Cleveland’s defense hasn’t considered is a catchy nickname.
Through five games, they were the NFL’s stingiest team with the fewest passing yards (1,002), passing yards (607), punts (77) and first downs (52) and the third-most down conversion (23.1).
%). Only the 1971 Baltimore Colts and 1970 Minnesota Vikings started the season with fewer yards.
Not

Colts DT Grover Stewart has been an iron man for his first 6 1/2 pro seasons.
He appeared in just two games, extending his streak to 66 games. But he will not play Sunday after receiving a six-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

in the middle

Dustin Hopkins provided the punch that Cleveland’s special teams needed.
Hopkins was acquired from the Chargers in late August and has performed better than expected. He made 12 of 14 field goals, including 4 of 5 in last week’s win, including 50 and 29 yards in the final 3:21 to beat the 49ers.
Set a team record with four punts of at least 50 yards.

new look

Indy got a new look this week, replacing the traditional white helmet and horse logo with a black helmet and a “C” surrounding the outline of the state of Indiana.
Other changes include black trim on the sleeves and neck of the jersey, classic numbers in large letters and textured blue stripes on the helmet.
