Colts are urged to acquire a rival TE.

The NFL staff at Bleacher Report suggested that the Indianapolis Colts trade for tight end Mike Gesicki of the New England Patriots.

The Indianapolis Colts are a pleasant surprise in the AFC South after five weeks of play this year.
By doing so, the team might end up being sellers when the NFL trade deadline comes around at the end of October.

Mike Gesicki, a tight end for the New England Patriots, is an intriguing potential addition to Indianapolis’ roster if that is the case.

As much was argued on October 9 by the Bleacher Report NFL staff.

The BR staff stated that Anthony Richardson’s replacement, the Colts, “could use another big-bodied receiver.”.
“Shane Steichen has been utilizing RPOs in inventive ways on the goal line, where heavy personnel packages have been used, so he could be especially helpful there.
“.

This is Gesicki’s first season with the Patriots, and through the first five weeks, he hasn’t really contributed much.
Additionally, he didn’t work well in Mike McDaniels’ Miami Dolphins offense the previous season.

Gesicki has caught 12 passes for 116 yards so far this year.
He only averages 3 rebounds on 4 targets per game.
In Miami in 2022, Gesicki had 32 receptions for 362 yards.
.

He averaged 11.3 yards per reception at least last season, which was the second-highest mark of his career.
He also scored 5 touchdowns.
Gesicki has failed to score so far this season despite averaging 9 point 7 yards per catch.

However, while playing for the Dolphins in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Gesicki registered 50 or more receptions and more than 700 receiving yards.
In 2019, he also recorded 51 receptions for 570 yards.

Whether Anthony Richardson or Gardner Minshew is at the center for the Colts offense, that Gesicki could be very helpful.

The Colts’ ability to accommodate a second tight end on their roster is the biggest unknown, though.
Tight ends Mo Alie-Cox, Kyle Granson, and Drew Ogletree are already in Indianapolis.
Jelani Woods, a second-year tight end, might also make his injury comeback this month.

Granson has 13 receptions and 103 receiving yards this year, which puts him in first place among Colts tight ends.
All three of Granson, Ogletree, and Alie-Cox have caught touchdown passes.

In his rookie season last year, Woods had 25 receptions for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Will Mallory, a tight end, is also a member of the Colts.

The addition of Gesicki would improve Indianapolis’ tight end depth, but it’s likely that one of the team’s young, talented tight ends would suffer as a result.
