Vikings won’t ‘down’ Justin Jefferson’s back quickly, according to Kevin O’Connell.

Minnesota’s EAGAN.
The Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell made it clear Monday afternoon that the team will not put receiver Justin Jefferson back on the field until he is fully recovered, even as they awaited the results of additional tests on the receiver’s strained right hamstring.

O’Connell remarked about Jefferson, “He’s down today.
He’s undoubtedly one of the fiercest competitors I’ve ever encountered. He was attempting to resume the game as it had been the day before.
In order to take care of him and restore him to full health, we’ll need to make a sound medical decision and help him somewhat protect himself from himself.

With 12:49 remaining in Sunday’s 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Jefferson slipped while making a cut during a route.
He missed the final 21 snaps for the Vikings, which was unusual for a player who has played 92 percent of the team’s offensive snaps since making the starting lineup in Week 3 of the 2020 season and has never missed an NFL game.

O’Connell spoke on Monday about the overall picture of the team’s season and his star wide receiver’s career, even though he did not rule Jefferson out of the Vikings’ Sunday game against the Chicago Bears.

In order to provide Justin with the care and treatment that will benefit him in the long run, O’Connell said, “We’re going to do what’s best for Justin and make sure we do so.”.

The three receiver personnel groupings for the Vikings will probably include K if Jefferson is indeed out.

After Jefferson (53 targets), Hockenson has received 39% of the Vikings’ pass targets.
