DAWUANE SMOOT

Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Monday that Smoot (toe) is trending towards not playing in Thursday night’s matchup with the Dolphins, Maddy Glab of the Bills’ official site reports. Smoot was unable to suit up for the Bills’ Week 1 win over the Cardinals, and it now appears his toe issue could hold him out for the second consecutive game Thursday. If Smoot is unable to go in Week 2, expect Von Miller and Casey Toohill to see increased work as rotational pass rushers.

TARON JOHNSON

Johnson (foreman) will not play Thursday against the Dolphins, Ryan O’Halloran of The Buffalo News reports. Johnson left Sunday’s win over the Cardinals early and was unable to return. It’s not clear how much time the Weber state product may miss and if his quick status update is just a result of the short week or a more significant injury. In his absence, Cam Lewis took over the slot corner duties Sunday and will likely do so again in Miami.
