Former Liverpool and Newcastle United strikerย Andy Carroll has revealed that he hopes to emulate NBA superstar LeBron Jamesย by playing alongside his son one day.

The nine-time England international isย currently plying his trade with Bordeauxย in the fourth tier of French football, having previously turned out for Ligue 2 side Amiens last term. The 35-year-old has made a sterling start to life withย Les Girondinsย too after dropping down two divisions – scoring six times in four outings so far.

Now, the ex-Premier Leagueย stalwart has admitted that he still has one heartwarming objective that he would like to accomplish before the end of his playing days. Having entered the twilight of his career, the Geordie forward is determined to share the field with his 14-year-old son before he hangs up his boots.

With basketball greatย LeBronย having achieved this unique feat after playing alongside son Bronny for theย Los Angeles Lakersย recently, Carroll’s desire to see his wish come to pass has only been heightened. He toldย Lโ€™Equipe: “The goal is to do a LeBron James, meaning to play on the same team as my oldest son, Lucas, who is 14. It would be wonderful to experience that, in Bordeaux or elsewhere.”

The formerย West Hamย United attacker’s last spell in England came with Reading, leaving the Royals after a second stint in the summer of 2023. After a single campaign with Amiens, Carroll took a major paycut in moving to Bordeaux but the striker asserted that he made the move due to his love of the game.

Addressingย how much he is earning following his switch, he said: “โ‚ฌ3,500 a month? Oh no, itโ€™s much less. I wonโ€™t tell you the exact figure, but to give you an idea, since Iโ€™ve been living here, I rent a lovely little house and my salary is lower than my rent. If I joined Bordeaux, it was obviously not for the money. I actually had offers to play in Saudi Arabia, but that didnโ€™t interest me.”

“I thought about it [moving toย Bordeaux], and I said to myself that I loved living in France, but I wasnโ€™t playing as much as I wanted at Amiens even if I had a really nice time at the club.”
